You can learn about our survivalist web site here

We put this web site up to help others learn about radio communications. We primarily focused the content of survivalists and preppers. But that doesn't mean our radio communications training won't benefit others who want to lean more about radio communications systems. In fact we encourage anyone who wants to learn more about radios and antennas to go through our site as you can never get too much education! So go get a notepad and pencil so you can take some notes and get ready to learn about radio communications for survivalist and preppers.

What is a communications system made up of ?

The most basic components of a communication system is the radio and the antenna. These are the very basic components, there are many kinds of radios as there is also a variety of antennas available for your use. Radios can generally be broken down into two main categories:

Transceivers - these radios can send signals as well as receive them. If you are familiar with the CB radios then these are examples of transceivers.

Receivers - This radios can only receive signals. These radios should not be taken lightly because the do not have transmit capabilities! Two of the most well known receiver type of radios are the police scanners and shortwave radios.

Radios can be used in one or more of three main operating configurations:

Fixed base where the radio is used in a structure such as a house, office, or other permanent structure.

Portable operations which is similar to camping our or using screened tents and the like.

Mobile operation is just that - mobile. Mobiles are not just cars! You can see communication systems setup in cars, vans, semi trucks, buses, RV's, and even boats. When using radios in boats the correct term for this type of radio operations is marine mobile.

What antenna do I need ?

This all depends on the type of radio station you wish to setup. Some antennas such a a beam antennas re only useful in a fixed base operation. A wire antenna such as a dipole or loop antenna is best suited for portable operation. A vertical antenna and be used for both fixed base and portable operation. Mobile operations generally use some variation of the vertical antenna due to restraints in mounting configurations.
